Hello! Hope that everyone has had a decent week. Here are some things I've been thinking, in no particular order.
1) I personally feel like, if someone you love is in a nursing home, that they should receive plenty of calls and visits, if possible. Particularly if they are not adjusting well, and are not used to the setting yet, etc. My grandmother has 4 grown children. To me, it makes sense that they could talk to each other and set up some sort of schedule so that they can make sure that someone calls her every day. I feel terrible if no one calls her, so I call every single day, as soon as I leave work. The only day I miss calling is Sunday, because she has told me in the past that my aunt always calls her on Sunday-so I know I can rely on that. The other kids just call at random, and sometimes not for two or three days in a row. When I talk to her, she comments about that, or else just sounds a little down that she hasn't heard from anyone. I think that is just sad...I don't understand why grown adults can't work together to do something nice to help their mom out while she adjusts to this. It actually frustrates me quite a bit, but there isn't really anything I can do about it. They aren't exactly a close knit family...sometimes my uncle will answer when I text him, but sometimes he won't, and I don't even have my other uncle's phone #. I do text my aunt now and then, but she is the only one who does have a set call schedule, so there isn't much I can say to her. My own mom is very lax with her calling, and only seems to do it if the mood strikes rather than thinking of what my grandma might need.
2) I'm currently reading the 4th Odd Thomas book, in the series by Dean Koontz. It is called Odd Hours. I've read it before, but I'm rereading it now because just before that I was reading the third one, and it slipped my mind that I had read the 4th one...and I like them so much I just decided to reread it. Odd Thomas is such a lovely character. He may very well be my favorite book character.
3) Yesterday I may have eaten some bad tomato soup. Ever since I ate it, I've had such stomach pain..stabbing pain all around my stomach. I thought the soup was absolutely horrible and I didn't eat very much of it, but I can't imagine what else would have made my stomach hurt so much. I'm not sure, but that is my guess!
4) There is one more full week of summer vacation left, and then my son goes back on the following Wednesday. He will be a big third grader now!!!! He also starts football practice this coming week on the 1st. He is very excited for that. I am excited for him too.
5) Been craving pizza all day for two days in a row. I'm deciding if I should indulge tonight or just eat whatever I can scrounge up here at home. I need to go to the grocery store in the worst way!!! I just have a bunch of random food items at home but nothing that actually seems to make a meal.
6) Sounds like they may be a bit closer to hiring a new pastor at my church. They've had several interviews with a younger pastor, I guess he is 37 years old.
7) Well-better go!

I toally agree with #1. I never heard of the Odd Thomas series. Maybe I should look into that.
That was quite a bit of information in one blog. Thanks...it was interesting.
Sorry re: the stomach thing. I think with all the hot weather that some of us are feeling "sick". I have eaten things in the past couple of weeks that don't seem to sit right....hope that goes away soon.
Seems so early for school to start...mid August is early. I went to school when it was the Day after Labor Day before we started. My sister is a teacher and has to start in a week to get ready for the students to return.
#1 is a tough one. So hard to realize how lonely our loved ones are when they are older and many of us forget about them. Good for you for calling every day. I'm sure your grandmother looks forward to that call.
@oldfatgramma - Oh, Odd Thomas is just a fantastic series!!!! Some of the Dean Koontz books get a little carried away, and sort of got to the point where they almost all involved some sort of an alien creature, but these are not that way. I don't like alien books. Anyway, you should really read them!!! Oh, but if you do, make sure you do it in order, or else it wouldn't be the same!
There are LOTS of people who get NO visitors at nursing homes. Sometimes I wonder if it was being they were mean to their family or if the family just doesn't care. Some people are mean when they are old just like they were young so nobody wants to be around them.
Larry used to go sing at nursing homes but now his work keeps him from doing that. I hope they work something out but it's not just there, it's everywhere in the US.
